Those We Serve – Keisha

by | Feb 23, 2026 | Quest's Training Center in Tampa, Those We Serve

From the moment Keisha first toured Quest’s Training Center in Tampa, she felt something she hadn’t experienced elsewhere: belonging. A year later, that feeling continues to shape her willingness to explore new opportunities that help her live a full, meaningful life.

Building Confidence through Connection

Socialization became one of the first areas where Keisha felt ready to grow, and she began forming deeper connections with peers.

When she met Lucia, another attendee who encouraged and shared her love for art, she knew her efforts weren’t in vain. The two quickly bonded over their creativity, giving Keisha space to freely express herself and regain confidence in her talents. That friendship reflected what Keisha values most about the training center.

“There is so much natural love here,” Keisha says. “Everyone uplifts me and makes me feel like I can do anything in spite of my challenges.”

Eager to reciprocate the energy, she began teaching short art classes and eventually started an art club, helping others hone the skills she had developed over the years. With that renewed sense of purpose, Keisha continued sharing her unique style — bright, inclusive and expressive. Her artwork often reimagines familiar characters in empowering ways, reflecting her belief that everyone deserves to feel represented.

Keisha’s creativity soon caught the attention of visitors and staff across Quest programs, leading to her first major art sale. That moment helped her see her talent as something valuable and full of possibility.

“I was so used to my artwork sitting in a corner and thinking it wasn’t good enough because it was different and people didn’t know what to do with it,” she says. “Here, people are seeing my art, buying it and wanting to see more of what I can do.”

Turning Passion into Opportunity

That first art sale opened the door to new experiences, including treating herself to a shopping spree and a longawaited meal at Olive Garden. It made her realize her talents could further her ability to be a full participant in the community, not just a bystander.

Since then, Keisha has started developing three small business ideas — selling art, creating holiday-themed cards and launching a tiedye shirt line. She’s also building a website with staff support and saving for an iPad to expand her digital art and social media presence. The Training Center has become a place where those dreams feel possible.

Quest’s Training Centers continue to create spaces where individuals like Keisha can discover their strengths, build meaningful connections and pursue their goals with confidence.

“Quest has given me the freedom to be myself. I hope I can stay here for a long time,” Keisha says.
