Since joining Quest’s Training Center in Apopka, Jazmine has embraced the values of social and vocational development. With a focus on empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to lead full lives, Quest’s Training Center offers tailored support and opportunities aligned with each participant’s unique goals.
Gaining Access to Opportunities that Meet Goals
For Jazmine, forging friendships was a top priority. Thanks to the daily community activities at the adult day training center, it didn’t take long for her to connect with others who share her interests.
“We do crossword puzzles together and go on outings to the movies, zoo and art museum,” Jazmine shares.
These experiences have not only enriched her life but have also fostered a sense of belonging. Grateful for opportunities that bring her happiness, Jazmine now works to create a welcoming atmosphere for others. You can often find her getting to know other participants, encouraging newcomers to participate in group activities, or helping them feel included by showing them the ropes.
“I’ve seen Jazmine come out of her shell, taking on a leadership role to assist other people,” says Latanya Thompson, program director at Quest’s Training Center in Apopka. “She likes to see everybody get involved, so she steps in to bring everybody together.”
Social and Vocational Skill Development
Jazmine’s inviting nature allowed her to develop a relationship with her boyfriend, Percy, whom she met at the center. Their relationship has blossomed within the supportive environment of Quest, allowing them to enjoy moments together, especially on their cherished Friday lunch meetings.
In addition to her social achievements, Jazmine participates in vocational skills development training at Snack Shack, a convenience store within the training center. Jazmine practices inventory management, customer service and budgeting in this monitored setting, where supportive staff are always nearby to help. Through this hands-on experience, Jazmine is gaining skills that can transfer to supported employment opportunities in the future.
Jazmine’s growth is a testament to the customized skill development and recreational services that cater to her specific needs. She is not only achieving her personal goals but also contributing to the meaningful and enjoyable experiences of others she encounters.
