For many of Quest, Inc.’s clients, transitioning into adulthood presents challenges and opportunities as individuals look to explore their budding independence. The ability to work and grow in an employment setting is critical to forging a strong path into adulthood. Project SEARCH’s transition-to-work program is helping individuals like Ilaidye build a strong foundation as she begins her working life.
Project SEARCH in a nine-month transition-to-work internship program for individuals with developmental disabilities. Currently, Quest partners with the Osceola County School District and regional businesses to create opportunities for program participants.
Ilaidye’s journey through Project SEARCH brought her to Advent Health in Orlando where she performed work rotations in a variety of different areas of the hospital. Nutritional Services became Ilaidye’s favorite rotation. Duties involved assisting with meals and meal services. Through her rotations, she’s gained essential skills that have taught her how to work effectively.
Her job coach, leaders and teachers played vital roles in her development. The focus on money math improved her addition skills, while their overall guidance helped Ilaidye grow both personally and professionally.
Representatives at AdventHealth speak very highly of Ilaidye stating, “Ilaidye was very attentive to the needs of the clinic and staff. For example, she created fluidity within the clinic by cleaning the equipment and treatment rooms in order for patients to use.”
Ilaidye’s journey in Project SEARCH empowered her with skills and helped prepare her for her future career goals. With the support and mentorship received, she has grown in confidence and developed important abilities that will contribute to her success in the professional world.
