Before joining Quest, Inc. Wilmene Mitil began her career working with individuals with developmental disabilities in a group home setting in Maryland. Now, she brings her extensive experience and passion to Quest’s Training Center in Apopka.

As a skill instructor, Wilmene plays a vital role in supporting skill advancement. She facilitates programs that encourage participants to engage in community activities, such as art, fitness and other enrichment areas to gain greater independence.

Recognizing that everyone has a unique learning style, Wilmene tailors her lessons to meet individual needs. By observing how participants communicate — whether through speaking, pointing, writing, or reading — she introduces concepts in a way that ensures everyone can actively participate.

“I’ve realized that collaboration is valuable and everyone can learn from each other,” says Wilmene. “Seeing what makes each individual happy enhances my ability to teach and directly influences how I can best support them.”

Her impact extends beyond the training center. Participants apply skills in communication, creative thinking and hygiene to their daily routines, promoting independence at home and in the community.

“Wilmene engages with the individuals, is thorough with her documentation of progress, and is committed to making changes for their benefit. That is what I like to see in staff,” says Program Director Latanya Thompson.

We truly appreciate the dedicated efforts of skilled instructors like Wilmene, whose guidance empowers individuals to enhance their life skills and unlock their full potential.
