Growing from Soap-Making Activity to Social Venture

Before Blossom officially launched as a social venture in 2018, it began as a soap-making activity within Quest’s Training Centers. Leidalyd was one of the original participants and first met Crystal, now Blossom’s Production Coordinator while working at a nearby Quest-run workshop.

“I knew Leidalyd would be a great fit for Blossom,” says Crystal. “She consistently demonstrates strong teamwork skills and collaborates effectively with others to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.”

Celebrating Teamwork Among Colleagues

For Leidalyd, Blossom isn’t just her first job; it marks a transformative journey toward independence. She and her coworkers are responsible for every phase of the business, including handcrafting soaps and candles, packaging, shipping and sales.

Leidalyd thrives on the camaraderie and positive energy of her team. Known affectionately as the team’s DJ, she brings her joyful spirit and love of music into the workplace, often keeping everyone’s spirits high.

“I have great coworkers, and I enjoy working with them,” Leidalyd shares. “I also get to dance to my favorite music while I work, which makes working at Blossom fun!”

Building Skills and Confidence to Gain Independence

Each day, Leidalyd eagerly shows up for work, grateful for the opportunities Blossom provides. She has the opportunity to cultivate skills, gain independence, and take pride in her accomplishments.

Recently, Leidalyd stepped out of her comfort zone by using the POS system for the first time at a local event, Milk Mart. She also participated in Quest’s Join the Quest event, engaging with customers and assisting them with their purchases.

“I’m so proud of her,” Crystal says. “She’s developing so many skills that she can take anywhere.”

While a staggering 81% of individuals with developmental disabilities face unemployment, Leidalyd showcases the powerful impact of a supportive and inclusive environment. Blossom not only focuses on creating high-quality products but also prioritizes empowering its team members by recognizing and celebrating their unique abilities.

“Working at Blossom makes me feel happy,” Leidalyd says. “I enjoy making soaps and candles, and I love working with my manager, Crystal. Blossom helps me feel independent and earn a paycheck.”
