Team Member Highlight – Faye Murphy

by | Mar 8, 2025 | Camp Thunderbird, Team Member Highlight

In celebration of Women’s History Month, we honor the incredible achievements of women who significantly impact the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities at Quest, Inc. One remarkable woman is Faye Murphy, senior director of recreation and training programs.

From Wolverhampton, England, to Camp Thunderbird’s Lake Prevatt

Faye’s journey with us began nearly 20 years ago when she applied for a camp counselor position at Quest’s Camp Thunderbird. Originally from Wolverhampton, England, Faye always had a passion for travel. She discovered Camp America, an agency that enables international students to work at summer camps across the United States, and thus began her journey at Camp Thunderbird’s Lake Prevatt.

Before becoming a camp counselor, Faye set her eyes on becoming a high school teacher.

“I’d never really thought about working with this population. I wasn’t against it, but it was just something I wasn’t aware of until I came to Camp Thunderbird,” said Faye.

Midway through her first camp season, she realized she wanted to make working with adults with developmental disabilities her long-term career.

A Career Filled with Impact

She returned to camp the following couple of years, and her career at Quest blossomed from there. From 2010 to 2011, she worked an 18-month internship as the camp program coordinator. After that, she managed group homes, training centers, supported and independent living before assuming her current role. She even helped open the door to Quest Village, an independent residential community designed for independent adults with developmental disabilities, when she was the director there.

The Core Value of Having a Passion for Helping Others

Throughout each of her unique roles at Quest, her favorite part is witnessing the immense growth of the individuals we serve.

“I love it when you meet a participant or camp guest who visits us for the first time. Their parents or guardians were always doing things for them. In my role, we push boundaries and encourage individuals to do what they can to the best of their abilities. It can be going to camp and doing archery for the first time or moving into their own apartment and being completely independent,” said Faye.
