In every school, there are educators whose passion and dedication leave a lasting mark on the students they serve. At Quest Kids Academy, Ally Warner has shown a deep commitment to helping children with developmental disabilities live a full life.
Blending ABA therapy and education
Ally began her career as a supportive therapist before becoming a registered behavior technician. Inspired by the progress she witnessed in her students, she returned to school to pursue her Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification, which she earned in 2022. While completing her practicum hours, Ally jumped at the opportunity to teach at QKA, a role that felt serendipitous.
“I absolutely love teaching, but I also love behavior,” Ally shares. “QKA allowed me to thrive in both passions, helping others become more confident, working through challenges with greater independence.”
Empowering students to build independence
Her dual expertise shaped her teaching approach, allowing her to design individualized lesson plans and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs. This foundation prepared her for her current role as an early interventionist, where she supports students in achieving academic, social and functional living goals.
One of her most effective strategies is using prompting and fading techniques to help students increase their self-sufficiency. She emphasizes the importance of recognizing motivators — whether praise, prizes or encouragement — and celebrating success in real time. Victories such as following directions or initiating social interactions build lasting independence.
“Being able to say hi or communicate a need to go to the bathroom might seem small to someone, but it’s a huge moment for our families,” Ally explains. “When those skills start to translate in the home environment and the community, that’s how we know students are really mastering and maintaining skill sets over time.”
The benefit of executive functioning skills
Ally’s role has grown beyond working with individual students. She now oversees executive functioning and behavior programs throughout the school, embedding foundational skills such as self-regulation, organization and communication into the curriculum. These techniques help students develop adaptability and decision-making tools that will serve them well into adulthood.
This programming benefits not only students but also teachers and staff, who collaborate with Ally to identify strategies that work best. Her leadership fosters a culture of teamwork and innovation, ensuring that every child receives the support they need.
Committed to making an impact
Ally’s journey reflects the heart of QKA: passionate professionals working together to help children with developmental disabilities live full, empowered lives.
“It’s the joy of my life to be able to work with all our students and support teachers and staff by teaching strategies they can use with students. Then I can step back and watch them thrive, too. It’s phenomenal, and I’m so grateful to be here.”
