Quest, Inc. Launches Kids’ Summer Programs with Universal Grant

by | Mar 12, 2024 | Camp Thunderbird, Partnerships, Quest Services

Quest’s Camp Thunderbird, providing a classic summer camp experience for adults with developmental disabilities for over 50 years, will now serve children thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Universal Orlando Foundation. The grant is part of the Foundation’s “Celebration of Giving,” supporting local nonprofits fostering positive impact in the community.

The funds helped create year-round opportunities for children with and without developmental disabilities to experience the joy and adventure of camp life in an inclusive environment. The first offering for children begins March 18 at Spring Break Camp for children ages 7-17. Campers will enjoy classic summer camp activities like canoeing, archery and swimming, with options for sports and games, arts and crafts, and STEM projects.

Other programs throughout the year include Family Camps in March and April, an overnight Kids Summer Camp from July 14-19 and ongoing school field trips that are being coordinated with local school districts.

Quest’s Camp Thunderbird is owned and operated by Quest, Inc., a nonprofit helping children and adults with developmental disabilities experience a full life in Central Florida and the Tampa Bay region through a range of services proven to increase capabilities and quality of life.

“This grant from the Universal Orlando Foundation is a tremendous boost to our efforts in creating a more inclusive and supportive community for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities,” said John R. Gill, President and CEO at Quest. “We are deeply grateful for the Foundation’s commitment to making a positive impact, and this funding will enable us to enhance our programs and services at Quest’s Camp Thunderbird, reaching even more individuals who can benefit from our support.”

“Caring for the community is at the core of what we do at Universal,” said John Sprouls, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Universal Destinations & Experiences. “The work of our community partners is inspiring. We are honored to recognize and support their vision and to work together to bring positive change to our shared community.”

Quest looks forward to utilizing the funds to further its mission and vision to help people with developmental disabilities experience a full life while providing lifelong services for people with developmental disabilities.
