Our second DSP Highlight of the day brings us to Sandy “Dee” Belizaire.
Dee has worked with Quest Inc. for more than 14 years as a DSP. Joining the organization in 2005, Quest was Dee’s first experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. When talking about her experience with Quest, Dee stated, “It’s been fun. You are met with interesting and different characteristics every single day. It’s also rewarding. When I first came in, I didn’t know what to expect, but as I grew in the company, I watched behaviors and watched multiple things change.”
One of those changes took place with a client Dee has worked with. “One of my individuals would come in each morning and did not want to eat. So I said, okay, we are going to sit down and do this together. After working with her for a couple of months, she started eating. I felt good about that. And her dad always thanked me because that was his biggest thing. He wanted his daughter to have something to eat during the day. This brought much joy to my heart.”
Our DSPs will often say, the most rewarding part of their jobs is seeing change and transformation take place in the lives of their clients. Likewise, the direct support professionals at Quest live to see the impact on the lives of those they serve.
Dee told us that she has learned so much working with Quest. “I have learned that each person is different. Each person has their own characteristics, and learning their different strategies and who they are is rewarding. Getting to know each person and becoming a family is so important.”
