Miss Vickie has made remarkable progress in socializing since joining Quest, Inc.’s Training Center in Tampa. Her journey began with assisting in the Snack Shack, a simulated work environment where attendees can practice and implement important work skills. She initially struggled to communicate with others, however, with encouragement and guidance, she opened up and began engaging with her peers in the halls and day program.
Culinary class is one of Miss Vickie’s favorite activities, as she has a love for food and enjoys sampling the dishes she helps prepare. She takes great pride in her art projects and is particularly touched when complimented on her hair or clothing.
Miss Vickie is a vigilant participant at the Training Center and quick to give guidance to her peers and new attendees on procedures and rules. She is very alert and has become well-liked by fellow participants. She also enjoys music and can be found tapping her toes to the tunes in the day program area on most Fridays.
“The staff help me out a lot,” says Vickie. “Wherever I need help, they step in!” Miss Vickie is also very independent, letting staff know that she will make them aware if she needs help in an activity
“Vickie is very sociable and observant, willing to help anybody out when they have a question,” Says Faye Murphy, Senior Director of Recreation and Training Programs at Quest.
