At Quest, Inc., we believe individuals with developmental disabilities deserve to experience a full life. Our mission includes providing resources and support to help them obtain meaningful employment. Tarrence Darden has spent the past 23 years transforming his experience into a powerful commitment to supporting others.

Transitioning from Program Participant to Committed Staff Member

Tarrence’s journey at Quest began in 2002 when he first joined Quest’s Training Center in Apopka as a participant. With a comprehensive offering of skill development services, it took only three months for a lead staff member to notice his efficiency with contract work. She recommended Tarrence’s transfer to the mailroom, where he spent 2-3 years before being promoted to the physical management department.

“I hadn’t thought about working in physical management because I dreamed of being an athlete, but now I can’t imagine doing anything else,” Tarrence shares.

As a physical management assistant, he is essential in assisting clients in repositioning. This act involves moving individuals with limited mobility from one position to another to avoid discomfort and maintain their physical health. Tarrence believes in ensuring individuals feel valued and respected during this supported time.

“It’s important to ask individuals how they’re doing and what movements or tools they’d prefer. It’s all about them,” Tarrence says.

A Team Player with a Positive Attitude

Geralde Antoine, physical management coordinator, has worked alongside Tarrence for nearly two decades. Together, they create a comfortable atmosphere for clients to receive appropriate care. Observing his continued growth and dependability, she believes anyone would benefit from having him on their team.

“Tarrence is a hard worker who is always willing to learn,” Geralde says. “You don’t have to ask or tell him what to do constantly. He takes the initiative and makes himself available to help. I enjoy working with him.”

When he isn’t assisting with repositioning, Tarrence readily helps unload clients from vans, set up for activities or even take out the trash. No matter the task, he approaches it with empathy, determination and positivity.

“Tarrence is an unsung hero. He shows up every day with a smile, always willing to help,” says Latanya Thompson, program director. “He treats clients with so much respect, talking and laughing with them, so he knows them well. They enjoy him.”

Whether he’s repositioning clients, providing coverage, or simply brightening someone’s day, Tarrence exemplifies Quest’s core values daily. He reminds us that our mission to empower individuals to live full lives is not just a goal — it’s a reality we proudly live.

“Everyone needs help, and it’s important to lend a hand because you never know when you might need help,” Tarrence says.
