Volunteer Opportunities at Quest’s Camp Thunderbird

by | May 9, 2024 | Camp Thunderbird, Philanthropy | 0 comments

Nearly 150 BNY Mellon employees recently volunteered at Quest’s Camp Thunderbird to help prepare the grounds for the upcoming camp season. Their hard work and positive attitude were invaluable in completing major projects that will enhance the experience of our camp guests this summer.

Quest’s Camp Thunderbird Offerings

Located in Apopka, the 36-acre camp offers choice programming for children and adults with developmental disabilities. From archery and canoeing to nature exploration and crafts, attendees foster independence by choosing the activities they participate in. For parents and guardians, camp offers a much-needed respite from the demands of 24-hour caregiving.

The Impact of Volunteer Groups

Daniel Globerson, Managing Director of Engineering at BNY Mellon, expressed the importance of supporting worthwhile causes and contributing to the community’s health and welfare.

“If we can make a real difference for people who live part of their lives, whether it’s a day, a week, a month, or longer, with Quest here at Camp Thunderbird, we’re happy to do so and put a smile on everyone’s face.” “Everyone will enjoy coming out and seeing everything look new and bright again.”

Like BNY Mellon, volunteer groups can help with projects ranging from painting to clearing walkways, raking leaves and more.

Volunteer Your Time and Talents

Faye Murphy, Senior Director of Training Centers and Recreation at Quest, is looking for large groups to volunteer quarterly and smaller groups to volunteer monthly to help with various tasks.

“I would love to complete a few leading projects, including increasing rental space during the off-season, revamping cabin interiors, and creating a boardwalk so individuals with wheelchairs can enjoy more nature trails,” she shares.

Beautifying the area and creating new activities is beneficial for our guests and a rewarding experience for volunteers.

If you’re interested in volunteering, we offer many opportunities to get involved and give back to the community. Contact Katie Moore, Events and Volunteer Manager, at katie.moore@questinc.org to sign up today.
