Quest’s Group Homes offer a supportive home setting where residents can grow, learn and participate in meaningful daily activities within an active community. Residents receive personalized support tailored to their unique goals, interests and abilities, creating opportunities for greater independence. As a lead staff member, Ebony Jackson helps make those opportunities possible every day.

Finding Her Calling

When Ebony joined Quest in 2002, she was fresh out of school looking to begin her career in medical assistance. She was hired at Quest’s Laurel Hill Intermediate Care Facility, where she assisted nursing staff with tube feeding, monitoring vital signs and providing hands-on support to individuals with developmental disabilities who are medically complex. New to working with this population, Ebony approached the role with a willingness to learn and a desire to help others succeed.

I fell in love with the clients, and that’s what made me stay,” Ebony says. It could be my mother, my father, my sister, my child or me needing quality care one day.”

Twenty-four years later, that same compassion continues to guide her work. Ebony’s role includes balancing schedules, supporting team members, assisting with medical needs and providing direct support to Quest residents. At the core of everything she does is the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to experience life beyond the walls of their home.

Cultivating Connection

Whether attending Quest’s Camp Thunderbird, enjoying movie nights or spending time in the community, each experience builds confidence and a sense of belonging. Seeing individuals laugh, socialize and enjoy new experiences has become one of the most rewarding parts of Ebony’s job.

Just because they have a disability doesn’t mean they can’t get out and see the world,” she says.

Ebony makes it a priority to ensure individuals’ voices are heard, taking the time to understand their preferences and goals while speaking up on their behalf when needed. She recognizes that a group home is not a facility, but a place where people build their lives, relationships and memories. That philosophy has helped create an environment where individuals feel valued, respected and supported. It has also made a lasting impact on the teams she works alongside.

Ebony maintains a positive attitude in everything she does and is always willing to support both the individuals we serve and her team members,” says Lashara Thomas, senior director of group homes. Her years of experience, strong work ethic and commitment to excellence make her a valuable asset.”

A Lasting Impact

Ebony continues to exemplify what it means to lead with a passion to help others and a respect to help all people — two foundational Quest core values. Through her dedication, advocacy and genuine care, she helps ensure every individual can experience a full life.
