Project SEARCH Graduates Ready for the Future

by | Jun 5, 2022 | Events

The best feeling is completing something long set out for. We have four amazing interns within our project search program who did just that! Congratulations to Brandon, Mendiny, Najji, and Paul for graduating from Project SEARCH!

Project SEARCH is a 1-year internship where young people with developmental disabilities, typically in high school, work with Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), local school districts and private employers. Interns are paired with a job coach that helps them on site, and typically have a teacher that supports them as well through the program. The goal after the internship is to get them set up with a job post-graduation.

Today we celebrate the amazing four students who graduated from the program!

Brandon had 3 separate rotations at his worksite. The first being the front desk where he answered calls and greeted guests entering the building. His second rotation included janitorial/office duties where he cleaned, organized and fulfilled orders. In his last rotation he worked in the warehouse where he cleaned, stocked and organized school supplies. As of now he is in job development!

Our next graduate is Mendiny. She shared rotations with Brandon and her responsibilities included managing the front desk, as well as warehouse and janitorial/office duties. Mendiny has recently been offered a position at McDonalds!

Najji had 3 roles within her internship as well. She worked in transportation at her work site where she cleaned and sanitized the interior of the buses. She worked in the warehouse stocking, organizing and cleaning school supplies. Her final rotation was at the Media Center where she was responsible for light janitorial duties, checked in/out books and delivered requested books to classrooms. Currently Najji is working at Burlington as a merchandise associate!

Last but not least is Paul! Paul also worked in a janitorial and warehouse role. In his 3rd role he worked in the print shop. He would bind books and magazines, use the cutting machine for business cards, restock paper and organize school deliveries. Paul is currently in job development after the program.

We are so proud of our four amazing interns who thrived within the program and completed it successfully. These ambitious graduates are on their way to increased independence and are well-equipped as they begin their employment journey!
