Observed each October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) celebrates the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities, both past and present. This awareness showcases supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices that benefit employers and their employees.
Quest, Inc. is proud to offer a myriad of programs that assist in finding employment opportunities and then cultivating and teaching the skills needed for success in that career and life. The ultimate goal is to empower our clients to achieve their goals. From work readiness training and on-site job coaching to Blossom Artisanal, Quest’s social venture that employs individuals with developmental disabilities, Quest identifies each individual’s needs and preferences to ensure our clients find joy and success in their careers.
Dan’s Story
Daniel began his journey at Quest, Inc. when he was just three years old. For years, he received one-on-one therapy at Quest Kids, which prepared him to transition to our school, Quest Kids Academy (QKA) 2010. There, his teachers noticed Daniel’s love for art and just how quickly he acquired new technology skills.
“Daniel has always been incredibly hard-working, dedicated, and crafty — he’s passionate about creating art, but especially loves the process,” said Frances Torres, Director of Curriculum & Instruction. “Daniel has so many wonderful, transferable job skills. I knew he would succeed in the workplace — he just needed someone to see his work ethic in action, believe in his abilities, and some support.”
During his final years at QKA, Daniel began working at Blossom Artisanal Products. During after school work shifts, Daniel gravitated towards order fulfillment – a process which involves his greatest strengths. On May 24, 2023, Daniel graduated from Quest Kids Academy and became Blossom’s first Order Fulfillment Associate!
It’s the holiday season — Daniel’s favorite time of the year! During his work shift, Daniel was asked what he was working on — he smiled and said, “I’m counting my Forest Holiday candles.” Daniel got right back to work, counting each holiday candle and updating quantities in our system. A smile never left his face and his laughter filled the room.
The NDEAM theme for 2023 is Advancing Access and Equity. Quest’s employment services programs embody that theme. Like a flower, talent grows and thrives with care, cultivation and opportunity. Our clients have the talent. It is our job to foster the growth and continue finding opportunities for access that lead to equity and success in the workplace and in life.
