Today’s DSP Highlight brings us, Kwana Prince.
Kwana Prince is a DSP Lead Supervisor at Quest Inc., having worked at Quest for nearly 20 years. Moving to Florida from New Jersey, a Direct Support Professional was Kwana’s first job. Starting at Williams Road and moving to Skipper, Kwana saw the benefits of helping others while working with Quest. “I like taking care of people. So, when I applied for the company, it was a great opportunity to better myself as a person and just build something. And that’s why I have a career here.”, states Kwana.
Kwana, like many of our DSPs, finds peace and accomplishment in what she does. When asked why she loves caring for people, Kwana responded, “I feel really good when I go home because I take what I do on the job, and I implement it with my family. Taking back my care, my forgiveness, me doing things appropriately, my attitude, and how to be a listener to my family. So, it works both ways when it comes to being at home and working at Quest.”
Through her time at Quest, Kwana has gained an increased level of compassion and a greater sense of awareness for those with developmental disabilities. We asked Kwana what she would like others to know about the Clients we serve at Quest, and this is what she said: “Well, for me, they’re not just clients, they’re my family. And for people to understand that they’re people. They’re not a job, and it’s not something you just want to get paid for. Your heart has to be good. You have to have patience. And it’s rewarding because they show it to us when we do good with them.”
“DSP Week is the week to let the staff know that we appreciate them and are still here to support them through good and bad days… And we acknowledge them for everything that they do. And so that’s what the DSP Week is, to show them that we’re here and they are also not just employees, They’re family too.” – Kwana Prince.
